What Others Are Saying

"We hired Maki Construction for our custom lakefront home in 2023. This was our third build and we needed to find a general contractor as our previous GC had retired. We were nervous about working with someone new. Mike Shipman and his team at Maki Construction exceeded our expectations. High quality workmanship with excellent, accurate execution of our plans. He suggested multiple new ideas which we gratefully implemented. All in all this was a fun, low stress experience, which isn’t always the case when building a new home. He and his team are true seasoned professionals, trustworthy, very responsive and knowledgeable. We highly recommend Maki Construction."

"From our initial phone consultation, to our first design meetings, and throughout the entire building process, we knew we had made the BEST choice in hiring Maki Construction to build our new home. Mike listened to our wishlist, gave excellent suggestions to help us achieve our dream home within our budget, and assisted us in navigating through all of the processes involved in new construction. Our project manager, Shane, was excellent at keeping us informed, and making sure that we were satisfied at every step during the construction process. Our home was delivered on budget and ahead of time! We have been in our home for four months, and could not be happier with our quality, comfortable, beautiful home. Thank you, Maki Construction!"

"Maki Construction was a great partner to us as we renovated our lake home and added a full two room addition and basement with lots of windows overlooking the lake. Mike Shipman was wonderful to work with and listened to our wants and needs, and helped bring our vision for our retirement dream home to life - on schedule, on budget and without stress.

Mike was great at bringing new ideas and solutions to us to consider, as well as challenging our thinking of a traditional design. We always felt that Mike put our needs first and guided us to make the best decisions during the build-out.

Mike has been our "go-to-guy"! Even after the work was completed, Mike has been very responsive answering questions or addressing any issues, as well as connecting us with other home services specialists for doing smaller projects. If we do any more remodeling or build a new home, we will definitely call Maki Construction and Mike Shipman."

"We are very happy customers of Maki Construction! We recently purchased a lake house on the Chain of Lakes and it needed renovation from top to bottom, inside and out. Under the leadership of Mike Shipman, they guided us with wonderful recommendations for a full lake house makeover, and gave us a reasonable bid with an amazingly quick timeline. It is now the house of our dreams! Project Manager Shane Brankey expertly monitored the reconstruction every step of the way and the result is everything we hoped for and more! The Maki team is truly a pleasure to work with- always kind, helpful, patient and knowledgeable. They know how to get the job done, and are as good as their word. We are forever grateful and highly recommend Maki Construction!"

"I have worked with the team at Maki on four home renovation projects over the last few years. I can’t not stress enough what a pleasure they are to work with. From initial brainstorming regarding your project, to the design, budgeting, and actual construction, the entire process is as pain-free as any construction or renovation project could ever be. Working with Maki is a true collaborative partnership where the customer's vision of the end result is their guiding compass from start to finish. I also appreciate that they are highly respected in the community Moreover, I personally value the fact that everyone on their team, from the office staff to their on-site crews, are truly a pleasure to work with, and do all they can to make the process of remodeling or building exceed your every expectation. I can’t recommend them highly enough, and I look forward to working with them on other future projects."

"Coming from a custom home building family and working as a structural engineer, we had high expectations for quality, service, and integrity. The Maki team exemplifies all these characteristics. Mike Shipman, in particular, is a knowledgeable, experienced, and trustworthy master builder. He ensured our project ran smoothly and any changes and issues were addressed promptly and fairly. Overall, we had a great experience with Maki and would recommend them to anyone interested in building a quality home with solid craftsmanship."
Mark and Chris S.
"Maki Construction and Mike Shipman did a great job in building our dream lake house. Mike listened and incorporated the history of our old family cottage into this new home. He gave us all the modern amenities that we were lacking in our 1927 cottage but still made if feel like the cottage that we knew and loved to visit every summer. Now we have the opportunity to have fun there all year round!"

"When my wife and I decided to build a new house in Lake Villa in 2019, we selected Maki Construction because of their quality reputation and A plus rating by the Better Businesses Bureau. Our project manager, Mike Shipman, kept us well informed and completed our house on time and on budget and followed up on a myriad of details that arise during a home building process and provided good advice always.

Mike was able to find a local craftsman who built custom wood beams for our great room which is the centerpiece of our home. My wife and I would give Maki Construction our highest recommendation to anyone looking build a new home or remodel their existing home"

"Maki construction is one of the few contractors out there that not only will watch your back, watch quality & execute insulation, they will also form a life long friendship with you. I consider these guys my friends and would extremely recommend them to anyone."

"I have nothing but the best experience with Maki Construction. I did a new build out with them in Antioch. I broke ground in April 2023 and I got my house in December that same year. It was quick, their attention to detail and the whole process was amazing! I am so happy to be in my new house! There were so many things that I didn’t even think about but Mike addressed them before I thought of them. And if there was any problem, he always had a solution. He gave me pros and cons for things and he also listened to my concerns. I trusted him and he delivered. I still need to finish my basement and when I’m ready I know I’ll be for sure calling them again."

"The love for our home that you built for us cannot be expressed in words. Our home has become the House of Gatherings. Birthdays, Holidays, Grand baby visits and now a Wedding this summer.

It’s crazy to think that Mike Shipman was able to take pictures found online and Pinterest posts and make such a beautiful home. The time he put into making it perfect was above and beyond anything we would have ever expected. We are forever grateful to you and your amazing crew."
